Hollie went to Tenerife recently and this is what she had to say –
“I was lucky enough to enjoy a 3 night stay at the Ritz Carlton Abama hotel in Tenerife.
Set on the cliff tops in the Guia de Isora area of Tenerife is the 5* Ritz Carlton Abama Hotel which boasts views of the Atlantic Ocean towards the island of La Gomera. It is set in its own private grounds but is only 3-5 minutes in a taxi ride to the harbour village of Playa San Juan and only 15 minutes taxi to the busier resort of Adeje. The Abama is ideal for people looking for a hotel in a quieter location but still close to the main resorts.
The hotel is split into different accommodation areas with a main terracotta-coloured citadel building which holds Deluxe rooms & various suite level rooms along with various restaurants, bars and other facilities. Away from the main citadel building there are Villa rooms for adults & families and some have a private pool for the rooms in that row to use and are a more private and peaceful accommodation option. There are also the adults only Tagor Villas which are ideal for couples looking for a tranquil stay in gorgeous surroundings. These villas share their own adults only pool with pool service offering complimentary soft drinks, hot drinks and alcoholic beverages throughout the day, as well as fresh fruit & canapes. Guests here can also take their breakfast at the El Mirador a’la carte restaurant which has beautiful views over the ocean. I was lucky enough to stay in a Tagor Villa and another extra perk is your own private golf buggy to help you get around the resort with ease. It’s also quite a lot of fun!
The Abama accommodates families well with a kids mini club and excellent children’s facilities with a vast range of different daily activities to keep the 4 to 12 yr old guests occupied. Children under 4 are allowed in the club but need to be supervised by an adult family member.
A huge benefit of the Abama is its range of lovely and renowned restaurants. These restaurants enjoy an excellent reputation and serve a range of international cuisine. The hotel has ten restaurants & bars, two of which have been awarded Michelin stars, the Japanese focused Kabuki based at the golf course and the fine dining MB restaurant which was awarded its second Michelin star in 2014 and features signature dishes from Martín Berasategui, one of Spain’s top Basque chefs. My personal favourite was TXOKO which is the hotels Spanish influenced restaurant and has all the traditional meats & tapas style dishes along with the best calamari I have ever tasted – a definite order recommendation there! The half board option at the resort is very good (pre-book). You can take your evening meal at a choice of the 3 restaurants -TXOKO, Verona (Italian) and the new 20/20 steak house. You then get a resort euro credit to use against your bill at the other restaurants if you choose to eat there. They also have a range of options for lunch time (pay locally) – the beach club restaurant, pool side restaurants and also the lovely Clubhouse restaurant at the golf club which boasts stunning views down over the hotel & resort. The hotel strongly recommends making dinner reservations as all the eateries are very popular.
For avid golfers the Abama Hotel is a great choice. The resort’s own 18 hole golf course offers lovely scenery, lakes and ocean views from the fairways and greens. Guests staying at the hotel will get better green fee rates but we would also recommend to pre-book any golf before you travel to avoid disappointment. Also keeping with the sports theme, for any tennis players & fans the hotel has its own Tennis Academy associated with Annabelle Croft. Not being a tennis player myself I was lucky enough to have a tennis lesson with one of their great coaches and was very impressed with the facilities and service offered. As always the hotel boasts adults only pool, children’s pool and a main pool as well.
The hotel has a lovely beach which is accesssed via the Fenicular cable car or the hotels private mini train which also serves the whole resort and works on a hop on/ hop off basis.
Another feature for those wanting some pampering is the award-winning state of the art Abama Spa which has a full range of health and well-being treatments including revolutionary Pevonia Lumafirm™ treatments and a water circuit treatment as well. The Gym has great facilities too with personal trainers available and fitness classes.
The Ritz-Carlton Club level offers a personal service to guests in an exclusive area of the hotel with all rooms and suites located on the 10th floor, offering ocean views. The Club Lounge offers food served throughout the day, complimentary WiFi, computers, outdoor terrace and a pleasant atmosphere and place to unwind. Also people staying in Club rooms have exclusive access to the small Persian pool throughout the day as well.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and was hugely impressed with the service from all the staff, the exceptional food and great range of facilities. I would happily go back for my own holiday anytime!
