Venice short break

Jackie has just returned from a short break to Venice. Flying from Liverpool with Easyjet they got a real bargain! The flight times were perfect for a short break and they enjoyed nearly 4 full days.
The weather was perfect with sunshine & blue skies although it was very cold but this didn’t stop them making the most of the days.
Marco Polo airport is very close to Venice and you have a choice of ways to get to your hotel. Firstly, there is a bus which takes you to the station in around 20 mins (8 euros) and from there you will need to walk, private water taxi or public water bus to the nearest stop to your hotel. Jackie however chose to get the Public water transport (Vaporetto) direct from the airport to San Marco & walk the short distance to their hotel (15 euros). It is very easy to use this service, you merely establish which stop is closest to your hotel and then choose which Line you need to take – just like the underground.
There are no cars or even bicycles on Venice island so it is very easy to walk around, although you WILL get lost! The tiny alleyways are endless and it is easy to lose your way but that’s part of the fun and you will very easily find your way again.
Venice is a shoppers delight for Designer goods and there are plenty of authentic restaurants. It is very tourist friendly and safe but in the height of summer it can be very crowded indeed (as well as smelly!) so this time of year was perfect and Jackie would definitely recommend a visit out of season to make the most of your trip. She also took a trip to the islands of Murano, Burano & Torcello which was worth the 20 euros for a half day tour. She loved Burano and said that if she went back, she’d like to stay there for a night.
Jackie really enjoyed her trip to Venice and is glad that she has ticked it off her bucket list. She has said that 2 nights would be enough if that is all you have and it wouldn’t matter where the hotel is on the island as you’ll cover it all easily. The airport transfers are very easy and lastly – take your credit card as you’ll need it!
