Hebridean River Cruise

Karen & homeworker Pam went on a river cruise with Hebridean Cruises. This was their experience –

“A River cruise on a personal level. If you have ever thought of taking a river cruise but are unsure if it’s for you, I can recommend Hebridean Cruises. We were lucky enough to go on a 3 night trip on the Royal Crown Enkhuizen in Amsterdam which was part of a 7 night cruise from Amsterdam back to Amsterdam. The Royal Crown is one of the smaller river cruise ships on Europe’s waterways so is able to visit some ports other river cruise ships don’t manage to get to.  She is an attractive ship with 45 Staterooms and Suites all of which are outside so have views. All 35 Deluxe cabins and the 4 Premium cabins are located on the Select Deck and 6 Royal Suites located on the Panorama Deck. All cabins are a good size with en suite facilities, television, adjustable air conditioning and ample wardrobe space. The Royal Suites have a king size bed, separate seating area with sofa and arched picture widows.

I found the crew on the Royal Crown and the team from Hebridean Rivers cruises to be excellent and made every effort to make our experience a wonderful one.

Our first port was Enkuizen which is a very pretty little town on the banks of the Ijsselmeer which is actually a large lake north of Amsterdam. We then sailed south to Hoorn from where we visited Alkmaar. Alkmaar city centre preserves the 17th century pattern of canal and narrow street and have many historic buildings. Alkmaar is also famous as a cheese town: for centuries the world-famous cheese market has been held here on a Friday. Visitors from across the globe come here to view the spectacle. The colourful hats of  the cheese bearers, the hand clap of the cheese traders and vibrant  surrounding market make Alkmaar cheese market a perfect day out.

We then sailed further south to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam we went on a trip to Haarlem which is also a very pretty commuter city where lots of people who work in Amsterdam live. It’s abundance of historical slights, cultural attractions and hidden gems crammed into a relatively small city is truly a sightseer’s paradise.

If a river cruise is something you may enjoy why not come in to Spa Travel and let us plan one to suit your needs.
