Jackie’s summer holiday….

“It’s been years since I went to Greece so I was REALLY looking forward to going back this summer and I wasn’t disappointed. I went back to Kefalonia where I visited over 20 years ago when my children were very small. I was curious to see how much it had changed and I was pleased when I saw that it really hadn’t very much. Argostoli the capital was far busier and has spread out considerably but the other resorts weren’t too different. We stayed in Lassi all those years ago and going back was really nice. Yes it has grown and there are far more restaurants & shops but I easily found the hotel/apartments that we’d stayed at and they were just the same!
This time we had a villa in Trapezaki in the south which was very quiet indeed. A sleepy typical Greek village with a couple of shops & restaurants. We had a car for the 2 weeks which was a must and we drove all around the island visiting the sights and resorts.
Personally I preferred the north of the island as it has the prettier resorts (in my opinion) and the scenery is just spectacular. Kefalonia has plenty of ‘must do’ sights, including Myrtos Beach, Melissani Cave, Drogarati Cave, the resorts of Assos & Fiskardo. The capital Argostoli is worth a visit too where there are plenty of shops and eateries.
My absolute favourite place was Assos which is simply beautiful and very traditional. The pebbly beach is small and there are only a handful of sunbeds but if you are lucky enough to get some, you’ll have a perfect day here. Fiskardo is a little further up the coast and is also really pretty and larger. It has a lovely harbor which is full of every type of yacht from the humble to the luxurious so is absolutely perfect for people watching! It’s a bustling resort on an evening with some lovely shops and restaurants.
I would go back to Kefalonia in a heart beat and Greece remains my favourite place in the world!
