Karen in Lake Garda

Karen has recently returned from a walking holiday to Lake Garda in Italy with Inghams.

After the short 2-hour flight to Verona she was met by the friendly Inghams representatives in their own area of the airport and guided to the transfer vehicle.

The transfer up to Lake Garda is a very scenic drive with some amazing views and being accompanied by the Inghams rep on the journey they gained local knowledge and tips.

Inghams walking holidays are different to traditional ‘walking holidays’ in that they don’t have set itineraries and you can do whatever you feel like doing. Inghams have added up to two included guided walks per week in selected resorts. They allow guests to meet one another and explore the local scenery and trails led by an expert local guide.

They stayed at 4* Villa Dirce in the resort of Limone which has a lovely pool area with amazing views over Limone. It’s around a 20-minute walk down hill to the center of the Limone (or jump on the hotels shuttle bus).

The resort of Limone lies on the north east side of Lake Garda and in the heart of the town there is an old port and plenty of picturesque waterfront cafes and restaurants. It has lots of narrow lanes lined with boutiques and souvenirs shops. From Limone you can take the ferry which zig zags across the lake calling in to Malcesine and Riva.

She visited Malcesine, where they had an Inghams guided walking tour with 2 amazing and knowledgeable guides. The tour was extensive and included ice-cream and local cuisine tasting and was full of fascinating stories about the history of the town.

From Malcesine there is a cable car up to the heights of Monte Baldo. The more adventurous person could try the tandem paragliding from the top of Monte Baldo. You could also try your hand at paddle boarding or other lake activities.

Karen loved Riva Del Garda which is a bustling town that has developed in to a tourist resort. There is a wide cycle path running from Rive del Garda which mostly runs alongside the lake to Torbole. The towns main area is set on the lakeshore and has a harbour, a park and a small beach. The old town is  set back from the lake and it is worth spending some time exploring the narrow lanes and tall buildings.

She also recommends taking the Inghams guided walk up the Ponale way path between Riva Del Garda and Lake Ledro which has spectacular views looking back over the lake.
